About: Dr. Jon Clark

Dr. Jon Clark has gained experience in counseling and therapy over the past 35 years. Starting in 1969, as a Counselor at the Juvenile Court in Wayne County, Michigan, he counseled over the next ten years with delinquent adolescents and their families, abusive parents and their children, with younger children in a delinquency prevention program, and with suburban teenagers coming to Court for various legal offenses. Also over these ten years, Dr. Clark organized a self-directed study of men's issues, such as work stress, man-woman relationships, and sexuality. He surveyed the literature on the subject and participated in one of the first men's issue discussion groups in the U.S.

After earning his Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1980 from the internationally-reknowned Merrill-Palmer Institute, Dr. Clark began his practice at a psychological clinic in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In the years following, he made numerous appearances on television and radio, and in newspapers, speaking on men's issues. He co-organized and presented two major conferences on men's issues and male-female relationships, facilitated an on-going singles group, and facilitated men's groups to discuss issues relevant to men.

Dr. Clark earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1987 from The Union Institute in Cincinnati, a graduate school founded by administrators from Antioch College.

In 1989, Dr. Clark relocated his practice to Rochester, Michigan, where he has practiced since. During the early 1990's, under the sponsorship of Crittenton Hospital, he formed and facilitated a men's group to discuss psychological issues of personal interest to men.

In his therapy practice since 1980, Dr. Clark has worked with individual men and women, adolescents, and children, as well as couples. His extensive work in the area of men's issues gives him particular expertise in working with couples and individual males. He has excellent rapport and effectiveness working with adolescents due to his experience at the Juvenile Court, in addition to his extensive psychological training.

Dr. Clark works with issues such as depression and anxiety or stress, with adolescent issues such as school problems and defiant behavior, and with people who have Bipolar Disorder and are trying to stabilize their lives. He believes in the uniqueness of each person and the client's ability and right to set his or her own goals for therapy. Dr. Clark gives useful feedback to help pursue these goals, helping to facilitate the solution of problems and personal growth at the same time.

Dr. Clark enjoys his work and finds it extremely rewarding helping people to overcome obstacles, to grow, and to change.
